MclordMagrão (born Ricardo Bombine Pimentel) is the guitarist for the band Guillemots. He currently lives in London but is originally from São Paulo in Brazil. He met Guillemots frontman Fyfe Dangerfield through an advert in an issue of the NME. He is known for his use of unusual instruments, most notably using electric power drills on his guitar and playing the typewriter and a giant clothes peg percussively. He is also known for his unique way of using guitar effects pedals to create textures and unusual sounds. He wrote the track 'She's Evil' which can be found on the EP Of the Night and performs vocal parts on the songs 'Last Kiss' Red LP, 'Monotonia' and 'Blue Eyes' which can be found on the singles 'We're Here' and 'Trains to Brazil' respectively.

Most recently, he performed lead vocals on "Me Diz", a b-side from Guillemots' 2008 single, "Get Over It". Originally, the song was to feature lyrics written by a competition winner but, after listening to the track as an instrumental, drummer Greig Stewart suggested Magrao write Portuguese lyrics for it.

Influences

In interviews he has stated that he listens to such bands as Sonic Youth, Einstürzende Neubauten, Butthole Surfers, Flaming Lips, Can and Brazilian musicians such as Tom Ze, Chico Buarque and Hermeto Pascoal . His favourite guitarists include Steven Drozd, Blixa Bargeld, Lee Ranaldo and Thurston Moore.
